As the weather warms up in Virginia Beach, many clients with curly or wavy hair struggle with frizz. I'm one of them! Humidity causes hair to absorb moisture, which causes the cuticles to swell and lift up, and you get that rough, frizzy appearance. I always know when the humidity returns because my extensions will look great but my natural hair starts to revert to waves and frizz.
If you have naturally curly hair, you may struggle with striking that balance between getting a chemical treatment to manage the frizz or wearing your beloved hair extensions. So let's talk about your options, because you want to avoid the patchy hair texture look, it’s a telltale sign that you’re wearing extensions!
Time Your Brazilian Blowout or Hair Botox Treatment
You don't have to give up your smoothing treatments at all, or your extensions. Some curly hair women like to wear a straight style with straight extensions and rely on a Brazilian Blowout to manage the root growth so there's no obvious transition. But keep in mind, we should only apply a Brazilian Blowout to your natural hair, not your bonds or extensions. The most efficient way to do that would be to treat your natural hair without any hair extensions in the way. So, you could plan to get a smoothing treatment during your move-up appointment, which happens at regular intervals for wefts and tape in extensions. If you're wearing fusions, there is no move-up, only a removal at the end of the hair's lifecycle. If you can't wait until then, we can still do something.
Can You Get a Brazilian Blowout On Top of Hair Extensions?
It's not ideal, but it's definitely possible. We would just have to work around your hair extensions because we don't want apply the treatment to the extensions themselves. We don't want to damage the hair or weaken the attachments. It can be done, but your treatment may take a bit longer as we carefully navigate around your extensions.
Another Option: Curly Extensions
Another option for the humid months is to embrace your hair texture and just go with it! Take a break from chemical smoothing treatments for a bit, and boost your natural volume or length with hair extensions that come in a curly texture.
